The residential market in New York City has improved a great deal this year. When they perceive good value, buyers are willing to purchase. Manhattan apartment prices continue to be
less than they were at the peak of the market but they have continued to improve for the fourth straight quarter. The growing strength of the economy, combined with near record low
mortgage rates, has brought buyers back in impressive numbers. Closings in the second quarter were 81% higher than a year ago and at their highest level since the third quarter of 2008.
The city’s economic recovery gathered momentum during the second quarter. Despite the recession, people continue to have faith in the local economy.
The strength of this market is a direct result of the increased confidence level in the U.S. economy and is bolstered by the fact that the unique, fundamental, underlying value of residential
real estate in New York City remains strong.
